Loving Life In Layers
Posted by Farm Girls on Nov 27th 2018
Hi Farm Girl Fans, I'm Alexx McKenna, A True Farm Girl At Heart
It seems as though winter is here to stay. The last leaves are slowly falling and the frosty mornings keep biting at our toes. As summer and fall slowly slip away, we dread the wintery wonderland that lies ahead. Eager to press fast forward, we often times forget to stop and enjoy the sweet, simplicity of a fresh fallen snow. That is why, us Farm Girls have decided to LOVE LIFE IN LAYERS this holiday season. Fluffy sweaters, fuzzy socks, and cozy scarves allow us to enjoy all the holiday has to offer. Whether you are building holly, jolly Frosty in your back yard or attending the Christmas tree lighting in the town square, living life in layers makes life more adventurous.
Here at Farm Girls, our Santa Bag is overflowing with layers. Carefully choosing your wardrobe essentials allows you to snatch up pieces that are versatile, fun, and farm girl approved. Do you struggle with knowing how to layer? DON'T WORRY! Us Farm Girls have created a list of five tips just for you, and don't fret...we checked it twice...and it doesn't matter if you're naughty or nice!
Tip 1: Color is Crucial
It is important that you try and stick with 2 to 3 color families when layering! A print is okay to have, but try to keep it to just one. In these photos, I started with Out To Sea Casual Top and then layered it with our Lucky Charm Green Jacket. This combo is full of versatility, allowing you to easily slip the jacket on or off for different looks. Also, did you notice how I punched it with some red accessories? Sometimes it's okay to break the rules. In this case, popping it with a Candy Apple Kisses Infinity Scarf added a dash of some sass and holiday cheer.

Tip 2: Focus On The Fabrics
Us Farm Girls love texture just about as much as a newborn baby calf. Layering different textures fills an outfit with so much character! Again, it is key that you stick with only a few different textures. The plaid Glowing Embers Cardigan mixed with the lacey Church Bells Green Blouse creates a cute, cohesive look. To top it off, we threw one more texture in there when we finished the outfit with Push Back Green Scarf.
Tip 3: Play With Proportion
When layering, it is critical to remember proportions! Too much or too little can make or break your layering look. It is important to choose just one or two colors, but it is also important to make sure that those two colors are balanced throughout the outfit. In these photos, I started with More Than A Gunny Sack Light Gray Tank and then layered it with our Used To Be Mine Navy Blouse. This combination is cute enough to stand alone or you can keep going for that extra touch of balance and blending. I chose to have Amy, one of our Farm Girls, slip on Life Flies Gray Sweater with our Push Back Navy Scarf for warmth and more cuteness! Keep in mind, I'm not suggesting that your outfit has to be perfect from head to toe! Believe me, us Farm Girls, can get a little messy!

Tip 4: One Bulky Item Only
Isn't it every girls dream to find clothing items that accentuate their best parts?? That's why it's crucial to try and stick to one bulky item per outfit! If you venture any farther, you are apt to embark on an unflattering adventure. An example for this is our Picking Pinecones Burgundy Pullover layered over More Than A Gunny Sack Ruby Red Tank. The trick is to try and keep all of the layers on the lighter side and then mix in a chunky sweater, fluffy coat, or a cozy scarf. So when creating your holiday shopping list this season, bigger isn't always better!
Tip 5: Don't Forget To Have Some Fun
Most importantly, have fun with creating outfits that express who you are! We hope that you take these tips and tweak and mold them to fit your style. Because our mission here at Farm Girls is to provide you with the pieces that help to build your own unique look. So what are you waiting for? Dive on in to your closet and have a ball creating some Christmas magic this holiday season!
Merry Christmas to you & yours!
